Months ago I found myself in one of those seasons where I couldn’t sleep… couldn’t eat… couldn’t think of anything except a crazy dream God was putting in my heart.
Do you ever have moments like that? Where a dream overwhelms you – terrifies you – takes your breath away?
I have been the Director of a Fine Arts School for the past seven years and it has been one of the greatest treasures of my life. The ability to encourage young artists in their gifts and see them grow through the years is an indescribably joy to me. I believe in the power of the arts to change the atmosphere…
…which is the principle that spurred my latest project
The Story Collective is a non-profit organization* that exists to bring artists together of every medium to create collaborative projects with a social conscience.
Because the arts have the power to change the atmosphere…
Our first project is “The Dollhouse” – a contemporary dance tour that combines professional dancers, choreographers, artists, composers, designers, writers and actors in a breathtaking display of redemption. This project will raise funds and provoke involvement in the massive issue of Modern Day Slavery.
- There are 27 million slaves on earth today. Half are children and <1% are ever rescued.
- Within the first 48 hours of being on the street, 1 in 3 children are lured into prostitution.
- 100,000 U.S. children are forcefully engaged in prostitution or pornography each year.
- The average age of entrance into slavery for girls and boys ranges from 11-14.
It’s ugly, isn’t it?
And we can’t turn a blind eye any longer. When you know… you can’t ignore.
