And it's more than just less places to store things. You have to circumnavigate the furniture when you're moving around. You have to move the chair to open the closet door, or whatever. And where do you put the laundry? Unless you have really put a lot of effort into choosing and eliminating furnishings until everything is proportionate, a small house can be very difficult. And even when perfectly furnished, two pair of shoes are lost in a large living room floor, whereas they seem to take up half of a small one! Just wait until you have two kids tumbling around in the mess & knocking your GAFA papers off the table and... well, we'll let you cross that bridge when you come to it! And yes, you feel like a whale. I felt like a walrus with flippers instead of feet because my feet swelled until I could hardly walk and the baby dropped so I waddled. You feel like a bomb about to go off, but you look like a ripe apple, a seed pod, a miracle, a joy... and people can hardly keep their hands (or their comments) off of you. I think motherhood is woman's journey from seeing her body as herself to seeing her heart as herself, to seeing her legacy as herself. Eventually, if we let it, our sense of beauty will sink inward and we will see our spiritual loveliness as something apart from our wrinkles and stretch marks and pudge. Mother Teresa became one of the most beautiful women in the world before she died, and Cher, who has prolonged her personal attractions long past their expiration date, looks like something soaked in formaldehyde and propped on an exhibit stand.
